About Pawleys Island

Pawleys Island is a 4 mile long barrier island that overlooks Pawleys Creek to the West and and the Atlantic Ocean to the East. Fishing in Pawleys creek can be very productive for flounder, trout, and redfish, however it is a very shallow creek so many folks choose to fish from a kayak, john boat, or from land which makes it an ideal location for a family fishing outing. The public can access fishing areas on the North and South end of Pawleys Island where parking is available.

Located just a few miles south of Pawleys Island is the North Inlet Preserve, a unique ecosystem that makes up a portion of Winyah Bay. Redfish, Speckled Trout, Tarpon, and Flounder are the primary target in North Inlet. Fishing North Inlet is back country style fishing at its finest!

Surf fishing from Pawley Island can be very productive particularly around the inlets in the Fall. Surfishing is best starting in late August through November and anglers can expect to catch bull redfish, flounder, trout, bluefish and sharks.

Pawleys Island Fishing Charters

Flounder Fishing

Pawleys Island, South Carolina holds an abundance of flounder which are generally caught in the warmer month using live bait. Due to the relatively small area to fish in Pawleys Inlet, we don’t typically offer fishing charters in Pawleys creek. However there are many options for flounder fishing in Pawleys for anglers who have access to a small boat, kayak, or wish to fish from land.

Fly Fishing

There are many options for fly fisherman visiting Pawleys Island. Just a short drive to the south of Pawleys is Winyah Bay and Cape Romain where anglers can experience some of the best fly fishing in the area. Redfish are the primary target for fly fisherman particularly on the flood tides during Summer and Fall, and in the Winter when redfish congregate in big schools in shallow creeks and bays.

Family Fishing Charters

The most exciting sight-fishing in the Georgetown area takes place during the Summer and Fall flood tides. High tides send swarms of hungry redfish onto the shallow grass flats to feed on crabs, therefore their tails are exposed above the water line. Stealth and casting accuracy are critical to getting these fish to bite. “Tailing” redfish can be caught on fly fishing gear and light spin tackle.
